I didn't really see it coming... this whole series is great, but this episode. This episode. I haven't cried like that in years. In the best way possible. I needed this and so do you. Just unbelievable.
There have been several beautiful episodes already (the prison one, the slaughterhouse one) but this one takes the cake.
If you are a regular DTFH listener then it would be a cardinal sin to miss this show. This is why we Trussel so hard. The finale (Mouse of Silver) is actually the very best episode. I cried.
Duncan's podcast had saved my life in 2019 in Vancouver. And now The Midnight Gospel is helping me to find my centre in this pandemic part of the universe. .

I started watching this show at the recommendation of a friend who said it was super trippy, funny, & thought-provoking after he watched the first few episodes. I thought it was weird at first, but I quickly realized how brilliant of an idea it is to juxtapose such heavy topics with surreal & whimsical animation. By the time I got to the final episode, I actually had to choke back tears & could not look away. The most beautiful & touching 30-minutes in TV history, in my opinion.
This episode shall find its way to classrooms and museums. It breaks the heart wide open and hugs the tears out of what is left. I am grateful to the artists for making it and sharing it with us.
The audio was recorded when Duncan was in his earlier years of podcasting, and is the actual interview he did with his dying mother. Ward and the animation team hit it out of the park with their choices of imagery and tone, throughout.
It is fittingly the longest and final episode of the first season, and though I look forward to the next season, if all they were able to put out was this one episode, it would be an accomplishment the creators should be proud of.
