When I saw the first episode of season 2, like all of you, I was struck by the tragic beauty of a lone Ray J sitting in his private jet where even the glow of the sunset offers little comfort to a lonely R&B singer. We all know what it's like to be consumed by our loneliness when the only thing we have to mask our tear-stained eyes is a $200 pair of sunglasses.
Lord knows the pain and disillusionment Ray J has endured after having found and just as quickly lost love on the first season of For the Love of... And imagine the feeling of hopelessness. After all, how often does a celebrity get a second chance to find the love of his or her life on their own TV show? But God gave Ray another chance as God surely knew that with a second season of a reality TV series, the only one who stands to profit is he who is on his heartfelt quest for love. We all have to begin again with our own little production of sorts and our own group of contestants.
But I was apprehensive as Ray J set out to meet his new group of potential soul mates, knowing full well that to even gaze upon this fresh batch of beauties would be a nerve-racking and potentially overwhelming emotional task. I watched as Ray J entered the house and one could almost hear the man's thoughts, "Be brave. You can do this again."
Ray emerged from the doors onto the patio where the women awaited and thus would commence another tumultuous quest for love filled with heartache and confusion. However, any feelings of apprehension in Ray J quickly gave flight as his emotional reaction in the solitude of his chambers gave testament. Ray could barely contain his heart's feeling of triumph as he beamed like a 10 year old boy upon receiving his much desired video game on a chilly Christmas morn. Are we not all but children in the face of love?
As Ray J begins yet another search for his one true partner in life, will the gift that he unwraps in the end be the one that finally makes this hollow man whole?
