Invincible is anything but. What was at one point refreshing and bold about the show now feels forced, repetitive, and positively dull. The dead are all alive again, the family bickers the same point, the lame romance turns toward the obvious, the self-reference lands with a thud; the Invincible formula of blood/hand-wringing/squabble/joke is now remarkable in that the show's writers and animators don't seem to notice that it's gone astray. If there is an overarching point to this series, it's "Trust No One." So if this is how this universe works, why is it so cluttered with busy tertiary characters? The long delays between seasons have proven to be too long. Nothing seems to be holding any of this together.
Solid episode, right back into invincible with no questions asked. Nothing stood out to me about this episode, but it was still an enjoyable watch. Oliver was a highlight of the episode, seeing him gain his abilities so quickly already makes me wonder about his character for the future. I think he has a great relationship with both mark and his mom and I'm very intrigued to see how their relationship plays in the future. Mark and Eves part was a little corny but hopefully they will develop on it in the future, and overall, i thought the fight scene with Doc Seismic to be solid, with seeing glimpses of a weaker mark... very interesting. Feeling a 7/10, YoDean out, thanks for reading the review.
Animation was mid as usual (not knocking off points for that), but the characters and jokes also left me rolling my eyes a lot of the time. I definitely wouldn't say this episode lowers my hopes for the season but I don't think it's a great opener. The events of the episode also left me more angry at season 2. It all felt very useless and like a waste of time after they practically fixed everything that happened in the last season. As I mentioned every joke fell flat and there wasn't much to care for outside of the action. It also felt like the VAs were phoning in their lines. Overall, if they continue in this direction, I think the season will be worse than season 2 however, if they can lock in, I have high hopes based on what happens in the comics.
Finally, this show is moving forward with the plot, and it's moving fast. Invincible is stronger and faster, and has a super hero kid brother. Seth Rogan's character is stronger and faster. More than one villain and they haven't even scratched the surface with this episode. I wasn't bored for a single second.
It had cool sci fi elements as well. The parts involving Mark and Eve were a little bit predictable, but nothing too cheesy. It is cool to think that Omni Man might join the forces to fight the Viltrumites. I'm not even a big comic book fan, and the fact that I just said that last sentence is a testament to how much I like this show. Who would have thought the idea of a superhero team working for the government and an alien fighting a Viltrumite empire would be so darn entertaining.

Comic fans on here have already pointed out the foreshadowing of one of the most intense, heartbreaking arcs in Invincible so I won't spoil anything. I am so anxious and excited for this season and the finale in particular.
But as it stands, this was a pretty solid season premiere. Some of it was reasonably predictable, but the reveal at the end was great and the action and violence was as entertaining and gritty as one would expect. It feels like a set-up episode, but what it sets up is enough to have me excited for the next episode.
Voice work, animation, song choices and character work is all solid so far, and I must once again say that they're already doing some things better here than they did in the comics.

- TriviaThe people Oliver was naming were signers of the Declaration of Independence: John Witherspoon (New Jersey), Oliver Wolcott (Connecticut), and George Wythe (Virginia). They are, alphabetically, the last three of the 56 signers.
- ErroresThe Declaration of Independence disappears from the sidewalk, then later reappears, and the body of the KO'ed thief also relocates itself on the sidewalk between shots.
