Arriving on a reclusive island, a real-estate broker looking to secure the space for a new luxury resort run afoul of a snake handler and the series of thugs he's gathered to wipe out the snakes who live there including the massive Titan Python which forces them to team up to save the snakes.
Overall, this was a fairly fun killer snake effort. One of the better features here is the solid setup allowing everything in the somewhat simplistic storylines getting a chance to come together. The main means of the team trying to preserve the sanctity of the island from the encroaching developers who are hoping to bypass the legends about the island's snakes living there impeding their attempts at colonizing the island allows for plenty of fun to occur here. It brings about the rivalry that exists between the snake handler and the corporation's thugs who are descendants of the same family so their difference in honor makes for an intriguing series of ecological warning-style setpieces about the dangers of performing this and letting Mother Nature be. This allows the film to get quite fun with the mixture of snake action and martial arts combat throughout the film. With the main plot involving the handler trying to fight off the thugs on his trail, the high-energy sequences here are handled nicely enough with the skills on display allowing for some spirited competition trying to be the heroic combatant during the encounter. With the snake initially left to brief ambush encounters that show it appearing out of the wilderness to strike a victim before disappearing, it doesn't have much to do until the finale where it gets to showcase itself in far better terms with the rampage across the compound and eventual final confrontation which manages to have some nice deaths involved alongside the cheesy effects. These all come together for a lot to like here although there are some features here that don't work for this one. One of the main issues is the bizarre means of trying to make the cooperate thugs the human enemies through unnatural actions. The use of their illicit tactics and more extreme means of dealing with snakes causes the rivalry to feel earned and realistic, but to then make it so that one of the henchmen turning into an attempted rapist whenever he meets the one woman on their trip. It comes out of nowhere and never feels like anything is going to come of it due to the censorship constraints so it feels somewhat odd added into the film. As well, while not a true flaw of the film, the fact that there's far more emphasis on martial arts action and combat here instead of more traditional creature feature action could be somewhat upsetting for those who want more attention focused in that regard. Overall, these few factors are what hold this one back.
