Asher Keddie nailed 'that' voice. A great piece of acting. And all round, the acting was excellent. Veeeerrry 1970's Australian.
I'm not sure this show would appeal outside of Australia and I'm not sure that the millenials would even understand it. Or care. But it was a landmark event and yes, women did care.
That said, the footage of a colourful, hopeful, thriving 1970's Sydney was wonderful and I loved it. Memories of a MUCH better era.
But the huge revelation in this for me, was the absolute irony of the entire thing.
Here is a woman who we've assumed 'did this all on her own', and yet, tellingly, right at the beginning, she is pulled up by a 63 year old colleague, and told in no uncertain terms that to climb in that industry a woman must be prepared to make concessions, most obviously to rich, powerful men.
And so, the birth of a much-needed rag for independent women was created by an up and coming attractive, intelligent and interesting woman on the back of a rich, powerful man. I was hoping not to have more of this confirmed in later research. I was hoping she did it all by herself, as female. But that's life.
The show is well paced, interesting, colourful and over too soon. I could have seen more episodes easily.
