When preparing yourself to watch "Best In Blue," the directorial debut of Devon Parks, understand this one thing. This isn't a huge budget, Hollywood production. And all I can say is, thank god.
Best in blue tells a story, an emotional story, and tells it well. Meet Thomas Turner (played by director Devon Parks), a struggling actor living in California, working odd stunt jobs here and there. Thomas receives some devastating news, and heads home to be with the family.
When he gets back, some of the problems that he left behind, he quickly realizes are still there. Best in blue tells this epic story with pure, raw emotion.
He quarrels with his father, who is less than thrilled of his sons choice of career. He quarrels with friends, who are seemingly resentful of him leaving town.
Much more importantly, and where Best in Blue excels, is Turner's quarrels with his inner self. Did he make the right decision, and what is the right decision in the future.
Best in Blue is a short, although imaginative piece of cinematic art. Parks proves that you don't need a multi-million dollar budget to make a great film. You need a story, and a dream.
