Lao shi jie

This is your classic new Chinese comedy, bursting with vibrant visuals and featuring some quirky entrepreneurs! The plot follows two pretty ordinary guys, kind of at the bottom of the social ladder, who decide to aim for something huge. Ma Tianyi (played by Huang Cailun) is determined to show his love, Shi Yizhi (played by Feng Qinchuan), that he can bring her happiness, which for many Chinese women means raking in the cash. He teams up with his buddy Xiaopang (played by Hu Bo) to launch a business and chase after wealth, leading them on a wild adventure around the globe. From the African savannah to encounters with Somali pirates, they go all out to strike it rich, eventually finding themselves in the U. S. trying to rescue the struggling city of Detroit.

There are definitely some laugh-out-loud moments, and it has a satirical edge, too. However, it seems like Chinese filmmakers still have some work to do when it comes to poking fun at other cultures, especially since they tend to be pretty sensitive about foreign takes on Chinese culture!
