Bid for Power

I have many happy memories of using this series with a class of geologists in a specialist language school in York in the 80s. The acting is superb, the story fascinating and not the usual twee nonsense of English teaching videos. There is real conflict and tension and convincing relationships between dynamite women and good-looking but inadequate men. Jan Harvey is marvelous in it. What a blast from the past it was when I recently found this! Beautiful locations, slick dialogue and useful structures of English made this video a joy to use with my class. They definitely don't make them like this any more. Action takes place in the UK and a fictional Caribbean island so plenty of scope for description.
