I judge an episode or any program by my involvement in it. In other words do I come out of the fourth wall. I watch this kind of program to be involved in the story. If I become uninvolved, I lose interest. I definitely lost interest in this story line. Normally, "The Rookie" is one of my favorite shows but not this this episode. I think the writers were bored or missing somebody on their team. The premise for this episode was not my normal reason for watching this show.
Normally, I like a show that has a good balance between the characters personalities and story line. In this case it was way too much about the characters. I give the episode a D-

Why the hell was Bailey at the courthouse, in the trailer, and then again in the incident room when they were working the case?
She's gotten like Nathan Fillion's 'Doctor Cop Lawyer' from Con Man (2015).
Have the current writers never seen a TV show before, or read a book? All the characters are becoming ridiculous.
The show has always asked us to suspend our disbelief but, c'mon, at some point they've lost sight of the path.
They've gotten so used to writing for unrealistic scenarios that they've gradually, over time, led us on to what is now almost unwatcheable.
Please take a moment and refocus. You're supposed to be professionals.

I like The Rookie. It's mostly good. Sure, there are a lot of filler episodes, but the light comedy mixed with the action. Can be entertaining.
This episode is mostly he same. Light hiker, some action, and a new theme develops for the season.
The problem here is the main antagonist is boring, over the top and unnecessary. I have a sense of dread thinking the whole season will be in pursuit of this person. Yawn, eye roll. More eye roll.
I like Nyla and her boyfriend. He's a good actor and doesn't over do it. Also, the sergeant is funny and a good character.
Also. The guy who was once famous for having been accused of murder but decided to be a cop is good. Use him more.
Of course Lucy is the star.

I love the Rookie TV show for the most part. But the "Double Down" episode looks ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!!!!! I can not understand what the writers and the directors of this episode were trying to show. For example, why was Eric Winter's character "Tim Bradford" doing tied up during an undercover assignment with Lucy Chen?. And although I love Melissa Oneil and her character" Lucy Chen", I do not understand why the script for this particular episode required Mellissa Oneil/Lucy Chen to be evolved in so many fights. And why was she running around the hotel room half naked trying to take out the "bad guys". And another one of my pet peeves is that I think Lucy Chen's fight with the character "Wisco"(KB Holland) was quite excessive. She was hitting him a lot. Was that necessary? And what was with the special effects. Why were the effects trying to display how the fight between Lucy and Wisco going? And why was Lucy hitting Wisco a lot on his side or his ribs? And I think that Lucy Chen looked silly trying to fight a man twice her height and weight. It looked like she was only winning because the actor portraying Wisco was letting her. I hope the producers, directors, and actors do better on future episodes.
CHENFORDDDDDD!! What a greattttt episode for Tim and Lucy. I loved every moment of them undercover. I also loved seeing Thorsen again. Seeing a rich Black boy on television makes my heart way too happy lol.
Rosalind is my favourite serial killer ever written on television (and I've watched a tonnnnn of crime shows) so I was so so happy to see her back!! Annie Wersching plays this role so well.

Best parts of the episode?
- Ummm... obviously every scene with Chen and Bradford. No spoilers buttttt... whew. They have so much chemistry it's not even funny.
- The Bradford-Lopez friendship. It feels like they got so much closer after Angela's wedding and I love the fact that the relationship is developing.
- Tamara is easily one of my favourite non-cop characters.
Worst part of the episode?
- I literally can't find a single thing wrong. Everything was amazing. I watched it once, then again right after, took a shower, then came back and watched it again. It was that good.
¿Sabías que…?
- TriviaRosalind Dyer has a marked loss of weight from previous episodes. Presumably this is due to the actor Annie Wersching's cancer, (from which she sadly passed away in Jan 2023}
- ErroresOfficer Thorsen was famous for years before he joined the LAPD. Its unlikely he'd be authorized undercover work especially so soon after being in the news.
- Citas
Beth Veston: I'm not crazy. I'm special. Roselyn showed me that.
