Flipping the Pieces

I thought this was probably the best episode of the season, and one of the best of the series. It was meaningful, not too busy, and was well done. My only gripe is that Mabel somehow learned to read sign language in an afternoon.

If you are willing to give a little suspension of disbelief to the show (mabel and theo ease of communication) the show works well in developing them, it really got me how they put themselves out and broke free.... specially mabel confronting her past (little bit of personal connection there). The detective with our comedic duo was a little too goofy for me but the bit with Oliver the baby and the chorus line is gold.

Flipping the Pieces explores why Mabel's memory might be hazy. It is all to do with her past with her father. She has happy memories of them putting jigsaws together.

She blocked out the memories of her father dying of cancer.

Meanwhile in the subway, Theo Dimas came to her rescue as he was on the next carriageway.

Reluctantly she has to accepts Theo's help and they go to Coney island to look for the Glitter guy. However you have to wonder why the police are not looking for Mabel given that it is all over the social media that she stabbed a guy.

As for Charles and Oliver. They come face to face with Detective Williams who has cut short her maternity leave.

The scenes with Mabel and the Glitter guy were tense. I was not sure the scenes with Detective Williams were as funny, where she could hear Charles and Oliver discussing getting rid of the murder weapon.

Outstanding pacing and crisp dialogue. The whole trip with Theo is quite wonderful. That actor does so much with his face, expressing his loneliness. He wants love so bad which his father has denied him through his nefarious actions. We get a look into Mabel's world and her relationship with her father. And at some point a huge weight is lifted. I also loved the scene where the guys go into the bathroom with the police lady outside. And we have a true cliffhanger at the end, showing that the adversary is indeed formidable.

Parts of the show was good and has emotional stuff such as Theo's story. Mabel's back story meant absolutely nothing and had no sense to it except that her dad died young from cancer and encouraged her to do jigsaw puzzles upside down. Hence the title "flipping the pieces".

I am surprised that in NYC that a person can stab a person on the subway, which is on video and no one is able to find her or even attempting to look for her. Especially someone who is so well known.

The detective is a total farce. Not even a cute baby (and what a big baby ... what is the time frame between season one and 2 anyways?) can save this episode.

And they go to Coney Island in broad daylight and break in and take forever to get what they want. I guess the purpose there was to get that picture in the trio's hands.

Too much jumping around and there seems to be very little that connects in a reasonably sensible way.

Let's hope the next episode is a little better.
