I had the opportunity to watch the 2015 movie "Plan 9" here in 2025, and opted to do so, without really knowing what I was getting myself into.
The story is adequate, but it sort of settles into a monotonous slump and never really gets off the runway. Watchable, yes, but the movie was just lacking a certain ingredient to bedazzle the audience and take the audience on a thrill-ride. Granted, I haven't watched the 1957 movie 1957 movie "Plan 9 from Outer Space" from writer and director Edward D. Wood Jr., so I don't know how much of a direct remake this 2015 movie was, or if it was an homage movie if not a remake.
Of the entire cast ensemble in the movie, the only familiar face on the screen for me was actor Brian Krause. The majority of the acting performances in the movie were fair, but you're not in for an evening of Shakespearian theater here.
While I did find that the special effects and make-up and prosthetic effects in the movie were adequate, much of the effects had a rather low budget and low key feel to it, for better or worse. However, there wasn't really much of any consistency between the infected, because some had milky-glazed-over eyes, whereas others had their regular eye color. I love how the corpses that came out of the graves were spotless clean, not a single speck of dirt on them. Yeah, that was very logical, and what a rookie mistake for director John Johnson to make.
"Plan 9" is a low budget sci-fi horror movie in the higher ends of the low budget scale. There is something about it which makes it watchable enough, but you're not in for a stellar viewing experience.
My rating of director John Johnson's 2015 "Plan 9" lands on a flat five out of ten stars.
