Netflix's "Love, Death and Robots" series returns for a Third run. Overall, I enjoyed the first two seasons and wrote short individual reviews for each episode and I think I'll take the same approach here.
Fearing an influx of Rats on his largely roboticised farm, Mason (Craig Ferguson) engages an extermination firm and Nigel (Dan Stevens) sells him a top of the line laser defence. His rats though, have been at the genetically modified seeds and are smarter than anticipated. When they knock out the system, Mason upgrades to a lethal vindictive variant - but even he comes to wonder if it's overkill.
Really liked the look of this one, it's CGI characters, with an basis of realism but with some stylised exaggerations to them. The robot scorpion was sleek and terrifying, relative to the mundane robotics that are in use on the rest of the farm. The vocal performances were good, though admittedly most of Craig Ferguson's were muttering.
It was a decent short story though and a complete one, rather than one that felt like just the opening of one. Neal Asher also wrote "Bad Travelling" this season, which again was a tight but complete story.
Doesn't outstay it's welcome and is a fun time whilst it's on.
