Vichitram

It has a ghost in it, but just doesn't have that gist in it. The drama is slow and lackadaisical. Not much interesting. The backstory is really unconvincing. A mother with her 5 sons move to a mansion after the death of his brother (the only person living in it). Bizarre moments keep happening in the house. The plot isn't that tight enough. The end says mystery continues! Okay?. The purpose of this movie is more than just trying to scare the audience. That makes it worth your time. Overall, it is a unique idea with standout performances. This movie tried to get Hollywood level horror, but people are just bored of Hollywood horror.

Vichithram is a horror mystery that is let down by its sluggish first half and a disappointing climax.

The film starts painfully slow by introducing multiple lead casts, their daily life and drags it for more than an hour with random incidences in their life that holds no relevance in the story. The film tries so hard to keep audience engaged with poor writing. Forced comic elements have been added yet it fails pathetically.

Infact the entire first hour can be skipped.

The film picks pace post interval wherein it enters a usual "Family moves to a haunted house" premise.

Multiple jump scare scenes that usually works are the strong points of the movie, although it gets predictable by the end.

The film ends as complete disappointment by the end as it shifts from a horror to a family drama.

Why so many characters have been added in the plot is a mystery.

Shine Chacko is the only one who carries the entire film which is sad.

Most of the drama happens with no proper reason and an average making makes it even hard to watch.

First half filled with light hearted Comedy and family elements, soon to be turn into a horror mood. Slow paced at times. But if you sit through the 2 hours, the final 15 minutes will blow your mind. Excellent performances by while crew, top notch cinematography, Great Direction, Bgm and sound designing. One of the best psychological thriller movies ever released in Malayalam and the very best Malayalam movie ever with a mind-blowing *PLOT TWIST. Shine Tom is excellent in his usual 420 avatar while Balu Varghese is comic relief, Lal is exceptional, Twins acting was realistic, the character who played their mother was also so realistic with her acting.

Was really looking forward to watching Vichitram on OTT since I missed the theatre release. It took a while, but finally managed to watch it. The movie takes a loooooong time to kick off. Character development and the family dynamics occupy all of the first half. Lots of mediocre comedy and lackluster scenes. The biggest let down is that none of the character arcs are exploited in the second half. Then why did they set all of this up in the first place? Second half has a bit more meat than the first, but again it's too long and dragged out. The entire movie is two hours and 15 minutes long! Also, the ending was such a let down and so implausible. What started as a haunted horror turns into a weird, no pay off ending. Acting wise, Shine, the mother and the other son were okay. Rest were again below average. If you want to watch a good wholesome horror movie which explore family dynamics, mental issues and horror, watch Bhootakalam. This is not even average.

Vichitram, directed by Achu Vijayan, is certainly following a format that is natural to us. However, it's anything but a film that is without make. In each thriller with a phantom, there will be a section that will show a point by point flashback about what occurred. Jasmine and her five children are the primary characters in this story. Alexander, Jasmine's senior sibling, was the person who lived on Jasmine's familial property. Despite the fact that there is an absence of lucidity first and foremost divides of Vichitram, the endeavors to portray the flashback in a marginally changed way put forth Vichitram an obvious attempt with a good narrative.
