Full Meta Jackrick

...come on folks. Rick and Morty isn't THAT bad. Season 5 had some pretty average (or bad) episodes, but it also had some bangers. This episodes isn't anywhere near the mediocrity of some of those S5 episodes in my opinion.

I personally had a blast from beginning to end. This was seriously a laugh-a-minute episode for me. As someone who loves meta-related stuff and has tried writing before, I thought the humor and characters felt pretty spot-on. I'm confused about how people thought this was either unwatchable or boring... I don't know, if I'm just an idiot because I like this episode, so be it. I had fun.

I thought just about all of the jokes landed, the meta stuff was quick and, in my opinion, the characters (Previous Leon) made the concept feel like it's own thing. I personally think this is one of the best in the season.

There is a big difference between clever and obfuscated, and this episode is more of the latter than the former. It is so needlessly obfuscated that you could lose your patience easily. I did, I had to pause a few times to just hear what Rick was saying. That's a bad sign. It means the writers are running out of ideas and now just want to appear clever. The meta-ness in the episode was pretty high and at some point, it was so meta that it stopped being fun. After seeing meta fourth wall breaking things a gazillion times, it no more looks like a clever tool to most of us. Hope the show gets better hereafter and that the writers stop cramming clever-sounding empty long dialogues.

Back after a brief Hiatus, and back with a bang, episode seven season six of "Rick And Morty" was and decent, difficult, smart return.

Rick (Justin Roiland) and Morty (Justin Roiland) find themselves dragged through the fourth wall, literally, into a battle with the returning Storylord (Paul Giamatti). They fight through the nature of the show itself, and against evil storytelling tropes before an ally, Joseph Campbell (Dan Harmon) sets them back on track.

It's actually a bit difficult to describe the story of this one, as it's a bit of a whirlwind of characters appearing and disappearing. What it is though, is clever. I've said in other reviews for the show that I like it when "R&M" tell a story that only they can do, and this is certainly one of those. From the very first moment, and a "Previously on Rick and Morty" that starts to unravel pretty quickly, through amended credits and right through to the post episode tag, there's very few shows that could make an episode as Meta as this, and even fewer that would take the time to take shots at the complaints of the audience at the same time.

Maybe though, that manic storytelling does come at the expense of some genuine humour, with the Self-referential six feeling very much like a first draft idea that should have been dropped when it didn't quite pan out to enough characters (Continuity errors aren't storytelling devices) particularly when they shift to being unused in the second half of the episode. I'd also say that, despite that uniqueness of the premise, in delivery it felt like several other episodes, even ones from this season (the fortune cookie episode, in particular).

I'd still say that overall I enjoyed it though and it's exactly the sort of clever storytelling I'm looking for from the show, I'd just like it to be a tiny bit funnier though.

Funny episode, well thought, amusing and it's a good thing about this show, crazy plots and sci-fi insane sequences. Not the most original episode, but entertaining! But I came here to comment just because of the wining "fans" here. You guys are never satisfied, just waiting for the episode to come out to make negative comments, and being bullies. What do you want? Such negative people here, probably bringing personal issues to a cartoon show that is by far one of the funniest, original and entertaining I've ever seen. Some say they will not watch anymore, please do that and leave the show alone!

This is my 4th favorite episode of the entire show.

And one of the only 4 that I rated a 10/10.

There are so many genuinely smart ideas and I personally was laughing my ass off through out the entire episode.

From the previously on being one of the coolest openings to an episode of a show I have seen, to the commentary on the very structure of story telling, to using story elements as characters, and so, so, so much more.

If you know anything about writing, you should love this.

I've seen a few say it's too meta, as if that's suppose to be a critical complaint.

Explain to me why that's a problem. Some say because it stops being funny, which is subjective and I personally found this to be one of the funniest episodes. Some say it's trying too hard to be smart... which... it is, but they never explain why it isn't working.

Like, you can't say something is trying to be X positive thing as a complaint, without saying why it isn't that.

Rick and morty has always tried to be smart, that isn't new, tell me why you think it isn't that.

You wanted adventure? You wanted originality? You waned cool concepts?

This episode has all of them. At this point people are just complaining for the sake of complaining. S4 wasn't as good as the first 3, and the entire middle section of S5 was rick and morty at it's worst.

But this season has been great, and this was imo it's best episode by far.
