The theme of this show is pretty common, I must admit. Portals, dungeon creatures and magical powers gifted to men to fight back. I am never a big fan of fantasy but this show already got me hooked for a first episode.
The animation, voice acting and soundtrack were good. I only had a problem with the pacing and explanations as they felt a little jumpy at times. The character introduction weren't really strong, but the plot kind of saved this episode towards the end.
I am gonna continue watching this show. It looks promising, but definitely not the best of a first episode in my opinion. Therefore, I am giving it a solid 8.

The meat riding for this show is already insane. Before the episode was out it was sitting at a high 9 which is absurd. I am excited to see where the show goes but let's be honest. The first episode isn't a masterpiece. Generic characters in a generic dungeon crawler story. I like the twist that it's set in modern times. But other than that and the animation there's not much else. Generic dialogue and world building are abundant. The main guy does stand out from any other Mc in a fantasy anime. I'm sure that will change as this is the first episode. The main guy constantly reiterates that he's a low rank. Every few minutes. Don't tell us when you can show us.
Being a reader of the manwha and light novel - I had some worries about the adaptation announcement for Solo-Leveling. With its incredible art, characters, pacing, and plot - I felt there was a lot they could potentially mess up while adapting.
About 4 minutes into the first episode, I could tell I had no reason to worry. I loved seeing some of the characters introduced - I thought the VAs and animation brought them to life well. I think the artwork is exactly as I expected - amazing! Two of my biggest fears were the pacing and the "De-Gore," some of the production studios do.
They changed some of the scenes, but I think it improved the storytelling and pacing. Once we got to the first dungeon, I could tell the "de-goring" would not be an issue!
I cannot wait to see this be animated and watch the story unfold!

Yeah i really enjoyed this first episode! I knew nothing about this show, except for the many times i heard about it on the internet and how excited people were! After seeing this episode i can kind of see why people were looking forward to it!
The premise is great and the episode quickly establishes the rules of this world as well as the role of hunters and what It means to be a hunter!
Great combination of different elements and genres too keep you engaged and focused!
The action and animation was really good! Its vibrant and fluent and it feels organic! Looks great for a first episode!
The main character is interesting and I am already excited to see where he goes! The end waste no time and we already got something exciting happening!
Overall a great hook!

Few manwha adaptations I have seen have been recognised as deserving of credit from all people - Nobelesse, Tower of God, God of Highschool were some of the most prominent webtoons out there and yet the adaptations they received lacked in quality in some degree. I hope this adaptation does not have the same issue; judging on first impression this does not appear to be the case.
Solo levelling's first episode was rather standard industry quality - the plot, the characters were introduced with clarity and coherence - the power system briefly explained, the nature of the MC made clear and the basis of the beginning established. This is essentially checking all the boxes for an opening episode of a show - the necessary.
Animation was very nice - I think the team were faithful to character design but licensing was quality and it wasn't a rip from the original material but maintained the faithfulness. And I think the story was told excellently thus far - however I wish this had been a doubled length episode if I had to nitpick.
Evidently the opening sequence to Solo Levelling is very iconic. The scene this ended on will continue at the start of the next and that's frustrating for me - I know my take may be nitpicking or unpopular but the part that comes next has one of the most iconic moments in Solo Levelling and this episode didn't show that. The pacing in this sense for me was wrong and while I know people hate to see someone criticise but this minor change would've made this a dynamic, unique and quality opening which generated more enthusiasm for the show than ever.
Nevertheless, I cannot complain - the episode didn't actually put a foot wrong besides maybe the pacing, which is subjectively my complaint, not an objective flaw in the show - I was very satisfied with the product the show gave.
In short, a wonderful episode, but it just lacked the quality to go further - 8/10 and I'm sure the next episode is going to be a 9 or 10.
