Growing up around Newcastle, this show captures many of the habits and behaviours of locals to me. Attitudes and behaviours were relatable, some stereotypical. But that's just how Newy is. Getting pissed and rootin' is a coastal town past time and a right of passage to some extent.
I don't share the opinion this carers come out in a negative light. I think that misses some key context - the 2 able bodied leads aren't professional carers, they're friends of the lead characters. Yeah, it skims over many of the struggles and challenges the leads might experience in real life - but it's quirky, fun escapism. A great way for those acting in it to show their talents - and they shine!
It's well shot, the characters grow and the interactions and dialogue are witty and engaging. I don't know if this is a positive or negative for disability and sexuality, buts it's an engaging watch and I'm looking forward to a second series. All of the actors play their roles without it feeling stilted or forced at any point. It's got awkward movements and they help to pull you in and connect with the characters in my opinion.
Loved it and really hoping this is a sign great Aussie series are making a comeback. Of which this should be 1 that gets many more series.
