I was cynical at first and thought I wouldn't enjoy this film, but my kids wanted to go so I brought them... and it ended up being the most fun I had in theaters in recent memory! I haven't laughed as hard or frequent in a film in years! My kids were legit on the edge of their seats and one turned and said, "Woh! This movie is intense!"
Brings back the glory and inspired storytelling of the 80s and 90s. The screenwriting, directing, acting and editing was all spectacular! Worthy of the big screen and I feel sorry for anyone who misses out on this movie going experience!

As grandparents, we did not feel this was an appropriate movie for small children. Maybe it should have had a PG-13 rating for the scariness and violence. We went to view it at our local theater yesterday and a women and her daughter left mid movie. On the positive, my artistic neurodivergant adult daughter loved it.
I really really liked this movie. I know there are people that are being critical saying that it was demonic however I think this is very relatable for kids. I did not find it "demonic" or "evil"I found it as the opposite actually I saw it as a heartwarming movie. One of the biggest points of this movie is when the brother says you're not a bad or evil person just because you drew an bad monster. This movie really does highlight that kids do not know how to regulate that emotion. They need to know that it is okay for them to have strong feelings. They need to know that it is okay for them to be angry upset or sad. They need to be reassured that it's normal if somebody makes you mad sometimes you want to smack them (that's normal even as adults we do the same thing don't lie when somebody makes you mad in your mind you're setting there thinking dang I really wish I could smack this person) it's a normal response. This was a great movie. It shows not only the kids growth but the dad's growth. I probably don't make a lot of sense there's so much I could say about this movie.
How did this wonderful film come and go without anyone talking about it? From the incredibly good child performances to the good visual and sound effects, and good editing, this is one hell of an entertaining movie - and a darn good production overall!
The family has a tragic back story, so we immediately root for them. Taylor (Tony Hale) recently lost his wife and is now single parent to Amber (D'Arcy Carden) and Jack (Kue Lawrence). Amber loves to sketch and expresses her feelings on paper, while Jack bottles up his emotions.
One day while walking in the woods, Jack stumbles and drops his phone in a pond and hurts his hand, but when he takes the phone from the pond, it magically repairs itself and his hand is healed. Amber draws disturbing images in her notebook, and when she accidentally drops her book in the pond, the creepy monsters in her drawings - having been ruined in her book - come to life.
When the monsters start wreaking havoc, it is up to Amber and Jack to find a way to stop it. I love the lighthearted narration and funny dialogue. Surprisingly, they manage to be funny even during tense moments without the humour ruining the suspense. It is a perfect blend of comedy, fantasy and suspense, and is also very unpredictable. There is also an emotional side to the film.
As I said before, the child actors are seriously good! Man, D'Arcy Carden, Kue Lawrence, and Kalon Cox (as their 'friend' Bowman) are terrific. I also love Tony Hale as a Dad trying to keep everything together. 'Sketch' is a fabulous movie for a young and mature audience. I really enjoyed it.

Sketch is rated as a Family movie. It's definitely for mature older children. I would not take children under 12. There is some strong content and language. My husband and I went to watch it before we took the grandkids and I'm glad we did. There's a lot of "perceived" violence.
I will say the story line is great. I just think that all of the language could have been left out and some of the violence toned down.

- TriviaAccording to the director, the original film was more adult oriented, with multiple profanities including "at least thirty uses of the Lord's name in vain," before being re-edited to fit the Angel Guild's standards.
