When Peter is waiting for Warren Stocker to show up at the initial meeting so he can take him into custody, he has all the supplies he needs in the back of his van. Rather than get on the bus following Warren's instructions, it would have been easier to just follow the bus in his van. That way he would have been able to transport him if he were able to take him. He also would have had a mode of escape in case things went wrong, which they did.
