Plot
Five live streaming serial killers compete against each other as they stalk and slash their way through a group of unsuspecting victims for the twisted pleasure of their dark web audience.
Cast
Not familiar with anybody involved thankfully, Deniella Alexis was the only one with any level of competence, every other person in front of that camera had no place being there.
Verdict
Each movie night both myself and my other half pick a movie, this was hers. It's not that it looked interesting, it's just she knows I've seen everything so generally just goes with the first film she finds that she knows I haven't and that brought us Murderfest.
Now within seconds you'll notice the movie has a budget comparable with the cost of a Big Mac with small fries. Now to be clear I'm not elitist type who only likes high budget movies, but on the flipside I am a believer in if you don't have the budget to pull something off then you know, don't.
Murderfest falls under a sub-genre that myself and the other half like, I don't know what you'd call it other than death game? Here we have an unoriginal streamed on the deep web event and someone thought it would be a good idea to film half the movie in the first person on poor quality shaking cameras that are positioned in such a way that you can't even see a kill taking place (Or maybe that was the intention).
The acting is offensively bad, some of the voices from the killers are so over the top absurd it actually made me cringe. The kills are very poor, the lack of budget shows, the overall execution of the movie demonstrates that those behind the camera are equally bad.
Murderfest is one of the worst movies of the year, I'm glad the creator hasn't done much in his career, lowers the chance of me being tortured by another one of his awful films.
Rants
And here we go again, a movie shilled beyond belief. I was suspicious of the high rating so naturally jumped to the reviews and they're all 9 or 10's, they all fawn over the film to ridiculous extents, they name drop the creators which is a blatant sign of shilling usually by the creator or their friends/family and many say absurd things. This is a great 80's slasher for example? How? It's not set in the 80's, it doesn't have 80's style music, it doesn't have an 80's look. You don't stick a mask on a killer and say it's 80's! For crying out loud. Why shill? People can clearly tell which makes you look bad, furthermore you don't get to see what people really think. Wouldn't you be happier seeing a high rating for real not faked?
The Good
Deniella Alexis was passable here
The Bad
Weak kills
Awful acting
Dreadful cinematography
Poorly constructed.
