    Season Four Review

Whilst this was another season of "Only Murders In The Building" that I enjoyed, I can't help but shake the feeling that It's not as funny as it once was and that diminishing returns have set in. I'm not ready to give up on it, but if they announced that the show will end after the upcoming fifth season, I don't think I'd be heartbroken.

With the body of Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch) removed from his apartment before discovery, Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) are approached by Paramount Studios ready to greenlight a movie based on the first season of their podcast. The adaptation is progressing with remarkable speed and the trio meet the actors poised to play them, namely Eugene Levy, Zack Galifianakis and Eva Longoria. When they do discover the fate of their friend, suspicion turns to the row of apartments on the West side of the Arcadia, that face on to Charles' window.

I want to say again, I liked this season overall. I want to say that because I think my complaints are going to flow easier, so they shouldn't overwhelm the generally easy going watchability that this season had. But. Perhaps naturally, as the show has produced four seasons in four years, which has drifted away from being the standard practice on streaming services, it's not as tightly or cleverly plotted as it was in the first story. There are elements here that, in retrospect, don't stand up to much scrutiny and co-incidences that become implausible.

There is also a lot of stunt casting in this season, as well as the three stars mentioned above, and smaller returns for Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd, you can also see Molly Shannon, Kumail Nanjiani, Richard Kind, Melissa McCarthy and Ron Howard across this run, to varying lengths. I think this to affects the writing too, as it feels written to accommodate who they could get, rather than the other way around.

Look it's still good, and that's a good score I've given it, but there are some issues there that I feel could worsen and I'd hope season five can redress them.

The friendship you should carry on for a lifetime

This episode once again showed us the power of friendship, the loyalty for beloved ones and also the importance of staying "humble and kind". Should we never trust a person who suddenly shows up in our live and hides behind the mask? It seems like yes, but it depends on the person. At the end, the selfishness and ego are the worst things to be attached to.

I loved everything about this episode, it made me laugh, it made me cry, be scared and shocked, and made me even reflect on a lot of things. Like why would a person "cheat" just to prove yourself is worth something yet you may not even belong here?!

    Season 4 review!

I just watched the season finale, and overall, this season wasn't as entertaining as I expected after the first episode. Most episodes felt below average, but they did have good endings. This episode felt like a celebration of nonsense scenes, with so many of them packed in. I figured out who the killer was around mid-season, but I hoped I was wrong-I don't really like it when I'm right. Last season, I couldn't guess the killer.

Despite being a bit nonsensical, this episode was entertaining. I loved the dynamic between Charles and his stunt double. The confrontation with the killer reminded me of the season 1 finale. Obviously, we all know they can't kill off the main trio-one is Selena Gomez (who, I think, acted better than in previous seasons), another is the show's creator, and the third is one of the most likable characters. By the end, I was just waiting for someone to die, knowing the show is renewed for season 5.

For me, this episode was the best of the season, but I wish Eva, Eugene, and Zack had more screen time. I thought they'd at least get a significant role in the finale. Eva Longoria looked great, and I hope they bring her back for season 5.

    My rankings: Season 3 > Season 4 & 2 > Season 1.

    A beautiful homage to Sazz

The first episode of this season is debatably one of the best of the entire series and to keep that momentum going would be a hard task for any show, let alone one on its fourth season of being a comedic, murder mystery. One thing about 'Only Murders in the Building' is that it has strayed more from its "murder mystery" plot lines to dive deeper into the comedic aspect of the show, which to some, may be frustrating, but to others, is perfectly sensible.

The finale of season 4 was honestly the perfect culmination of what this season could have ended up like. After a few episodes that were clearly weaker than others sprinkled throughout the season, the murder mystery plot wasn't the most prevalent throughout the season, HOWEVER, this season contained some of the strongest, funniest episodes in the entire series, and that entirely makes up for it. What this season finale "lacked" in a dynamic and dramatic killer reveal, compared to maybe season 1 and 2's, it made up for with joyous comedy, gut wrenching backstory into Sazz, a heartwarming wedding, and an extremely intriguing few new plot lines heading into season 5.

For major fans of murder mysteries, this season may not have been your cup of tea, as it wasn't weak in that realm, it just has been better; however, this is also a comedy show, and on that front, I believe Only Murders in the Building is stronger than ever. Therefore, giving a season and its finale that caused me to roar with laughter countless times less than a 10/10 feels... wrong.

Let's just say, if season 5 can carry the level of comedy while blending in a murder mystery comparable to season 1 or 2... I think 'Only Murders in the Building' would be in for its best season yet.

Hated the season but loved this episode

This was a bad season with a convoluted setup and too many guest stars with no role of significance. But this episode brought back the fun and the building again into the series. It was a thoroughly entertaining episode which was primarily shot in Arconia. Though I still find the entire plot nonsensical with a screenplay which was zigzagging allover the place, this episode was right at heart. We see the trio solve the case with a very funny ledge sequence by Martin Short and Steve Martin. Meryl Streep is lovely as usual.

Sadly Selena Gomez is again delegated to a side show with no character development. Please please revive the artist in her and give her some story line than just stand around make sarcastic remarks. The artwork was the main attraction for me in watching the series from Season 1.

Overall a very enjoyable episode in a dismal series.

When Loretta and Oliver depart as Loretta leaves for New Zealand, Oliver says to her: "you can't kiwi me away" and his lips don't match the sentence at all, and it is clear they changed the audio after they filmed him saying something else. An audio/visual mismatch can happen in movies, but this one was very clear and done badly.
