Pure magic all the way through

Pure magic all the way through with the most satisfying cliffhanger that I've been waiting for. Yowza! Every character got a piece of the action, so to speak. Best episode ever!

Without giving anything away, I have to say the writers KNOW THESE CHARACTERS SO WELL! Or should I say that Janine knows her coworkers so well!

Rather than adding some ambiguous storyline(s) at the end, they actually advanced several stories all at once. A bit like a family reunion with people coming and going.

We saw existing relationship grow or heal, we saw special friendships blossom and we get to see Janine's apartment!

    Season Three Review

I've enjoyed the previous two seasons of "Abbott Elementary" and happily dove into season three when it arrived on Disney Plus, in two segments, with the last episodes released this month. Truncated by the writer's strike, the episodes we do get are very good, but I wonder if perhaps the show ends on a pivotal mistake.

Janine (Quinta Brunson) is offered the chance of a temporary secondment to the school district, whilst reluctant to leave her class, she does see the chance to help even more of Philadelphias' students. Gregory (Tyler James Williams) struggles with his feelings for Janine and whether he made the right decision not pursuing a relationship. Jacob (Chris Perfetti) ends his relationship though and ends up moving in with Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter).

As I mentioned, the writers' strike truncated this season, leading it to start much later and be back down to 14 episodes. Fortunately, they ran straight through in the US, which allowed the show to make the season one school year again. That said, there's a bit of a time jump in the first episode, with Janine leaving and us then leaping forward 5 months to see her established at the district and returning to Abbott for one of her incentives.

It's largely more of the same though, with "Abbott Elementary" finding that sweet spot of kind and heartwarming, whilst still being genuinely laugh out loud funny at times. I wonder though if they might come to regret allowing the 'will they / won't they' aspect of their storyline to come to a head in the way they have. I think narratively the show might suffer either way they go, as I don't particularly want to see Janine and Gregory break up, but also, historically shows can lose their spark a bit when potential relationships become actual ones.

Hopefully not. I'd really like to see "Abbott Elementary" can avoid these pitfalls. We'll have to wait and see.

    Party

A very select few shows makes me constantly giddy the way that "Abbott Elementary" does. I'm not entirely sure why, but it may just be that these characters are the kind of people that you just cannot help but love and want to follow through every day of their lives. It's easy to get invested in those characters, and there are a lot of storylines that have gained that investment from the audience, most importantly, the relationship between Janine and Gregory. This episode finally gives us some kind of payoff to that storyline amidst a pretty chaotic party that proved to be a great finale.

It's very strange to see these characters hang out outside of the school, but switching up the classrooms for Janine's small apartment might have been the right thing, because it gave the characters a chance to let loose a bit and shine a spotlight on their other more entertaining sides. It's always fun to see these characters together, but it's fun to see them partying and dancing and everything, while Janine is desperately trying to stick to her arrangements. I did miss the presence of the students a little bit, as they always add a bit of levity to the entire situation, but it's also nice to see the show do some different things. However, this episode is mostly dedicated to the aftermath of the last episode, and how Janine and Gregory are tackling it, which they are not tackling in the best way imaginable. They continue to have great chemistry, even when they try not to, and it's always awesome to see how cute Quinta Brunson and Tyler James Williams are whenever they share a scene. This is a relationship that a lot of people have been rooting for ever since they met in the first episode, and it's understandable that a lot of people have felt a little bit alienated by the fact that it has been so on-and-off for a while now. However, the payoff in this episode is satisfactory even though it may not go the way that a lot of people think. We'll ultimately have to wait and see.

"Party" was a nice ending to a pretty solid season and continues to show the incredible chemistry that these people have when they are together. The resolution to the season-long question we all had about Janine and Gregory fills a lot of the episode and it does conclude with a satisfying (at least for now) conclusion.

Now THAT was a season ending episode

WOW!!! I'm going to try very hard to not give away any spoilers. My most favorite episode of the season, and not because of the last scene, but that has a lot to do with it.

Abbott Elementary is a great show. Each episode is so unique, well written, incredibly acted with soooooo many LOL moments. The "glance at the camera" that is incorporated into every episode is so well placed, and we get tow of them, back to back, and the timing is perfect. DO NOT miss the last scene, we've been waiting for it for awhile, and we were finally rewarded

The end of the school year party was so great. The way Janine orchestrated it with with every character in mind was spectacular. I want to know who does the writing. Is it Quinta, or her stable of writers. I love it.

Am so looking forward to next season to see where this episode leads.
