The "Beauty Queen Killer" refers to Christopher Wilder, an Australian-American serial killer who abducted and murdered at least eight young women during a six-week crime spree across the United States in early 1984. Wilder targeted attractive young women, often aspiring models, enticing them with promises of modeling careers. He would then abduct them, often at gunpoint. His victims included beauty queens, models, and other young women.
His crime spree began in Florida and continued across the country. Wilder was known for his charm and ability to gain the trust of his victims. His crimes were meticulously planned, and he often used disguises and assumed different identities.
The case of Christopher Wilder remains a chilling reminder of the dangers that can lurk behind seemingly ordinary individuals.

Tina Marie Risico went to the Hickory Farms store in the Del Amo Fashion Store in Torrance, California, on April 4, 1984. She went there to apply for a job while she was a student at Shery High School. Christopher Wilder reportedly approached her there with cameras around his neck. He then complimented her and claimed he had connections with a modeling agency. Wilder went on to lure her into his car by telling her he could help her. Christopher Wilder then stopped in the Anaheim woods before they walked to a wooded area. The Beauty Queen Killer then pulled out a gun and forced her to strip naked before he put a hat and sunglasses on her. He also taped her face before he drove her to a hotel. At the hotel, he sexually abused her using electric shocks and tortured her with a knife. He also coerced her into engaging in sexual acts. Eventually, Wilder also made Tina Marie Risico help him with committing the crimes. She reportedly approached a girl in Gary, Indiana, and told her about a modeling show before Christopher Wilder told her the same. He then lured the girl into his car, and they drove to a nearby motel when Risico reportedly watched as Wilder sexually assaulted the girl. He then electrocuted the girl and took her into the woods. Wilder suffocated her and stabbed her in the lungs before he left her there to die. However, the girl managed to draw attention from a passing car and was taken to a hospital, where she survived.
The Beauty Queen Killer: 9 Days of Terror (2024) is a haunting dive into one of the most chilling true-crime cases. The film expertly captures the suspense and fear that gripped everyone during those harrowing nine days, keeping the audience on edge. Its atmospheric direction and gritty cinematography immerse you in the unsettling events, while the performances are raw and unnervingly realistic.
The tension builds steadily, with every moment layered with dread and uncertainty. It's not just a crime story; it's an exploration of obsession, vulnerability, and survival. True-crime fans will find it gripping and unforgettable-a chilling reminder of how terror can strike unexpectedly.

Fascinating because so few people know about this killer since there was no trial, and yet rather than glorifying him the focus here is on the victims and Tina's mix of survival instinct, defiance, and regret that will never leave her. She's brave for speaking out when so many people at the time thought she was an accomplice -- only because they don't understand the sick dynamic the killer created on his spree. In this age of armchair experts it's really interesting to watch the same kind of victim blaming happen pre-internet in the 1980s. This is great true crime that sheds light on a very undercovered story.
Tina is a victim but she's also a criminal. What she did is absolutely vile and there's absolutely no way she couldn't have escaped at least a thousand times. Or warned Dawn to run the other direction, told her she was in danger, anything to keep another girl from becoming a victim. She was following him in a completely different car and NEVER ONCE had even a fleeting thought that she should drive away, run him over, drive away, anything.
And then suddenly, he just magically puts her on a plane, gives her money, and she's just randomly traversing Los Angeles, including to a lingerie shop, then her boyfriend's, then reluctantly submits to interrogation and is ultimately seen as a victim but I believe that, in her own words, became incredibly street wise and has a sort of criminal mentality, but supposedly never has thoughts of escape or even self preservation.
She seriously needs to thank God that.she didn't receive accomplice charges or even conspiracy. It's absolutely disgusting that she's so indignant and self-righteous. She owes Dawn and Mrs. Dodges family a multitude of apologies.
