I find that a major problem with the Doctor is that he doesn't do anything! This Christmas episode was okay but my question is, how come he doesn't save anybody? If fact everyone who comes in contact with him dies. This is a major issue for me not loving the last four seasons of Doctor Who. He should be saving lives not causing deaths. He should be moving the story forward without people dying all around him. He is not a wizard like Harry Potter so why has he all these new skills, maybe it's just to get a laugh or get the writers out of a spot of bad writing. But it's lazy and should be dropped. He is a Time Lord. He doesn't have and never has had widarding skills. So please get back to good stories where he meets and helps people. PLEASE!
I was so happy to watch the latest episode.
The magic is back.
We were looking for something special from Mr Davis . He has delivered.
I can't say to much for obvious reasons. Except to say the Doctor was working his magic.
As a long time Whovian I was waiting for something to come through.
The Doctor is amazing in this episode. He shows all his old abilities to change things for the better. In this episode he showed a lot of emotion again. Always appropriate. In the way The Doctor delivered.
I am just so happy with this. Joy is wonderful. Can't wait for the new season.
Welcome back Doctor.

This is what a Christmas special is supposed to be. I feel like Moffat gave us the episode we needed, nothing too overcomplicated or mind-bending, just a really enjoyable hour. It will still be fun for people who aren't caught up, because it's a standalone story. It actually made me cry, because I am alone on Christmas day and only got to see my family over Zoom. You'll see why that's relevant when you watch the episode. I've always loved the one-off companions like Kylie Minogue's character in Voyage of the Damned, and this episode lived up to that. Nicola Coughlin brings this really genuine energy to every role she plays. We don't actually know much about Joy, and that could have led to a one-dimensional character, but she had depth. The actress who played Anita also did a really fantastic job, and for me she was a highlight of the episode. This episode really did bring me joy for what it was, a simple and fun Christmas special.
Fun, entertaining, heartfelt... joyful! The Time Hotel is a perfect idea! Ncuti Gatwa's doctor shows a lot of character development after one season. Nicola Coughlan does a good job. Steph de Whalley's Anita is perfect and makes you wish she'd come back as a new companion! Moffat's writing sets the perfect ton. Great set, costumes, and score (as usual, if Murray Gold is in charge). New catch phrases (French!), memorable moments. The Indiana Jones-like action scenes felt a bit lost in the middle of the episode. Still, perfect holiday fun! If anything, it felt too short! Doctor Who is back... the long way round!
Joy checks in to The fabulous Time Hotel, but a deadly plan is taking place, only The Doctor can help.
How on Earth could an hour of so called sci fi entertainment, feel like a decade of painful Disney fluff?
On this evidence, I think it's good that Steven Moffat has decided to move on, he chose to move on by punishing us with this excruciating snooze fest. When you think of his highlights, just compare those to this.
Quite literally nothing happens, you keep hoping for something big, some major reveal, or some huge villain....nope we get the angry suitcase. The plot was incoherent, the CGI looked about two decades out of date.
It preached at us, as you'd expect from The BBC, it literally offered us nothing, even poor Ncuti seemed uninterested, sadly none of the supporting characters offered very much.
Sadly, a massive disappointment.
3/10.

- TriviaOriginally, Russell T. Davies was supposed to write the festive special but he had to abandon it because he ran out of time and had to start work on Season Two of Doctor Who (2023) immediately. So he emailed Steven Moffat asking him to take over and write a new special from scratch.
- ErroresThe Time Hotel portals to various Christmases of the past includes one to Sir Edmund Hillary's camp on what appears to be Mt Everest. However, his expedition was from March to May 1953, not at Christmas.
