I know the fantasy element seems to be annoying people, but the Celestial Toymaker first appeared in the William Hartnell era (which I saw when it first went out). And one should remember that when the first episodes went out we were presented with a police box, an everyday sight on the street back then, which was bigger on the inside. That was very radical at the time.
So this episode, for me, had some echoes of my 8 year old self watching the first one. I loved the twists and turns and that nothing was quite as it seemed. There seems to be a lot of little loose ends being subtly laid down as well. I thought it a highly entertaining episode and I loved every minute of it but then I'm a 50s child and I love art deco (especially the 50s art deco revival). They had me with that cinema.

From second 1, the episode distinguishes itself. Cinematography was consistently outstanding and the effects of the titular Mr Ring-a-Ding was seamlessly done.
The humour hits just as hard as the serious moments, where in a moment of brain bending meta-ness, the Doctor and Co find themselves talking to some unlikely people. This had me out of the chair howling, point and at the screen in tearful introspection.
For the first time in a long time, I thought the ending felt perfectly fitting of the stakes set up in the narrative and had me wishing another saturday would come sooner.
Viva la Doctor Who.

I can't believe the difference a week makes. The Robot Revolution was one of the worst episodes of DW I've seen. This, however, is high concept brilliance.
RTD pens a seriously strong script here, the dialogue is neat and tidy, the pacing is perfect, The Doctor and Belinda have a much more deep connection than Ruby ever had.
Also, Alan Cumming as Mr. Ring-a-ding is spectacular. A seriously underrated actor who knows exactly what to do with this brilliant villain.
I don't want to say too much else, but get this watched. THIS is the best episode since Capaldi. Some of you might be saying 'Don't make me laugh!' But you'll have to watch it and see....

Well well well. A super fab episode.
An awesome sci-fi premise, an incredibly menacing villain, a healthy amount of meta and playing with the format that wasn't too much, and some great characterisation and heartfelt moments. This episode was awesome, and Who at its finest, with a really tight script met with high quality production value - this is where the new era of Doctor Who shines. You can tell RTD put his all into this script and it really shows. Performances are amazing as ever and it's clear these two leads are a brilliant duo.
Things are looking bright this season, with two amazing episodes so far, and episodes to come looking just as fantastic.

I will avoid spoilers but this one got me a few times! Alan Cumming is one of my favorite Broadway performers and I really wanted to love his first appearance on the show but it just wasn't there for me. This one drew me in from the beginning (no pun intended) and was entertaining throughout. The ending is a little confusing but makes sense when you think about it. Don't miss the credits!
The mystery of Mrs. Flood continues to deepen and while Belinda is still tentative, she's starting to form a bond with The Doctor. It's actually refreshing to see a companion that doesn't just fall at the Doctor's feet. This episode featured humor, a little sadness, and of course there's always a twist at the end. A solid episode. It feels like we're building up another nice arc.
