After the original feel of last week's episode, the show returned to, what I felt, was more classic Who. And boy, did it work!
Decent cold opening, not the biggest hook but from there the tension built. A good set up, bodies everywhere, different causes of death, no real explanation. Clearly the plot thickens, a few video snippets but nothing too telling, then the reveal and link back to previous Who. Didn't see it coming, really well done. Made sense, not shoe-horned in. Didn't kill the legacy of the referred to episode.
My main gripe with the new Disney-era Doctor, is that each story has been wrapped up in, what felt like, a rush and possibly too easily. This one was not the case and, I for one, found this refreshing and a very satisfying ending to a very strong episode.
Let's hope we get more like this!

Oh well, sometimes an episode can shine like a diamond in the midnight sky.
The Tardis takes the Doctor and Belinda 500,000 years in the future.
They end up with a crew that are investigating what happened to the people in a mining colony. A planet depleted of its natural resources.
The people they are with have not heard of humans or the planet Earth.
The Doctor and Belinda discover all but one person are dead. The colonists died either by gunfire or with their bones shattered.
The one survivor is Aliss. She is deaf, she just wants to go home to her family and there is something behind her. No one can quite see it.
The design of the base reminded me of The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit. It turns out that it would not be the only nod to a past scary episode.
Not quite a base under siege but paranoia dialled up to eleven. This time the Doctor had good reasons to be scared and cry.

Suspenseful. Mysterious. Gripping. A compelling setting, interesting side characters, a terrifying foe and a brilliant script. This episode had it all. While it might not exactly reach the heights of the episode it's inspired by, boy does it come close. Everything about this episode was fantastic and it really brought a sense of immense threat and terror to this new series of the show. And the acting was on point - some of the best performances so far. I hope the writing pair of this episode write more episodes together because this was undoubtedly the best one of the latest era of the show by far!!
When I started watching this episode, I expected it to be a horror, as it was giving off those vibes from all the teasers. What I was not expecting was the twist in the episode.
There's so much tension in this episode, and it just left me on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. The characters are pretty good, with the episode giving characters like Shaya enough time onscreen so that you can get invested in them.
The episode also leaves you with a lot of questions having to do with the season's story arc, and I really hope they're answered in a satisfying way at the end.
Not gonna say anymore because I don't want to spoil the twist or the ending for you. I highly recommend you see this for yourself, and I hope it leaves you on the edge of your seats like it did for me!

Ep1 - Robot Revolution - meh!
Ep2 - Lux - not bad!
Ep3 - The Well - Excellent!!
It feels like we are ramping up this series and as if RTD is finally hitting his stride.
A really intriguing initial mystery (featuring a stand out performance from Rose Ayling-Ellis, would love to see more of her in DW) leads into some genuinely scary moments, an uncharacteristically high body count, and a plot twist that I didn't see coming until just before the reveal.
This episode had it all for me, including some so far limited development and proper acting from our new companion. If the doctor could just stop crying in every episode, that'd be a relief (we get it, you're the 'one who feels').
Also, what an ending!
More of this please.

¿Sabías que…?
- TriviaRose Ayling-Ellis, who plays Aliss, is deaf in real life. She credits Claudia Winkleman for landing her her "bucket list" role in the show, after the presenter urged her to chat to showrunner Russell T. Davies at an awards ceremony. The writer reworked the character so she could play her.
- ErroresWhen their equipment detects a heartbeat on the ship, the soldier Shaya yells "Weapons up!" Everyone who is armed, including herself, already has their weapon drawn and "up". Seconds later, though nothing about the situation has changed, the armed soldiers are back to relaxed weapon status again.

Cassio Palin-Paleen: It's not appropriate to call me "babes".
