I happened to stumble upon "Hardcore Comedy" (aka "Zhong kou wei") from 2013 by writers Yiu Fai Lo and, Henri Wong. I hadn't heard about the movie prior to getting a chance to sit down and watch it in 2020. But of course, with my love for the Hong Kong cinema, of course I did sit down to watch it when I was given the chance.
"Hardcore Comedy" was less funny than I had expected it to be. Perhaps because I wasn't aware that the movie was based around an adult theme, and not bearing the title "Hardcore Comedy" because it was going to be amazingly funny. So I was in for somewhat of a surprise.
With that being said, don't get me wrong. "Hardcore Comedy" is definitely watchable, and there is a good connection between the three different story segments in this movie anthology. Each segment was something unique and very different from the previous, but tied nicely together.
The acting in the movie was good, and they had some nice actors and actresses on the cast list. This was, however, mostly unfamiliar faces to me, which is something I actually enjoy in a movie.
All in all, "Hardcore Comedy" lands a six out of ten stars from me.
