Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi is a gem of an emotional movie to have come from the Nepalese film industry. Everything from the cinematography, location selections, musical tracks to the respective actors role is a 10/10 job. If there is a Nepali movie that truly deserves to be nominated for the Oscars Best International Feature Film ages after Caravan and Kagbeni, then this is it! I wouldn't be surprised even if they win the Oscars for such a heart warming movie. It's that good! And the best part is that it's a commercial success as well and not just limited to critical acclaim.
This soulful musical beautifully tugs at your heartstrings with an organically inspired and true rural Nepalese village story of how struggling impoverished parents especially the father goes against all odds to rise above their current caste based discrimination situation and establish a well-respected position for his son in the future with the right sacrifices, commitment and education.
Let me also share a funny incident from the movie experience at the theatres. Knowing beforehand that this could be a movie that could bring one to tears, I requested the movie cafeteria for a couple of napkins before going in. The serving waiter simply asked which movie I was going to watch and I was provided a pile of tissues, way more than just a couple of it. 😅
