Among the most anticipated films of the independent circuit in 2015 don't miss this "Insane" by Eros D'Antona. "Insane" has set itself as an unconventional movie, something different from what normally is produced in Italy, although scholars of the genre certainly not lacking. And it's thanks to the deepest underground that you can still breathe big gulps of air and have some great satisfaction, breathing that good cinema that many prefer to define now as deceased. Direct a film like Insane isn't easy matter, because there are a series of standards that like it or not, belong to us and even more belong to our cinema.
Insane is an action/comedy with some pulp shades, with characters, dialogues and situations definitely over the top, but without all those stretchings which drift to weigh down and to bore, in fact everything is studied and especially wanted to be what Insane is, also in the smallest detail. An handful of bizarre characters motivated by revenge for a story which, though not brilliant for originality, goes fluid and entertains with fun until the end, where you are ready to breathe satisfaction. All of this thanks to the solid and well built script.
There are many strengths in Insane, but is on the construction of the characters, even the secondary ones, that undoubtedly stands much of the excellent workmanship. All characters have been well-finished in every detail with so preciseness which highlights a strong personality and emphasize each one in a well-defined character that immediately makes you realize what kind of person in front of you and each of the actors has helped to give more power to the film. Among the main roles we find a pair of psycho killer played by an exhilarating and ruthless Roberto D'Antona (his Condom is perhaps the most complex character on which the young actor has certainly worked hard, a mix of Ace Ventura and The Mask for the home-grown Jim Carry) and a more calm but equally lethal Ivan King (Adam); the sensuality of our "noir panther" Crisula Stafida in fascinating red robes of Katia, from whom starts everything and then follows the fun and unexpected bloodbath which can be observed; Mirko D'Antona and Gianluca Busco in the pair of crooked cops that without wasting time lead off the dance tearing immediately more than a smile and then surprising us with the next badass scene; the implacable Alex Lucchesi in the role of Frank: the hub of all things, the enemy to find and break down. Remarkable also the slice of daily life of Frank with the two brothers, friends of him, played by Steven Renso and Zac Zanghellini and outstanding the dramatic story involving the same Frank, which clarifies further his status, through a video-execution where we find an intense Annamaria Lorusso.
Another strength is undoubtedly the music, from some old Italian classic that we hear in background to the unusual perversions of Condom, to those composed by Andrea Pinna that gives us a lot of emotions.
In closing, Insane as well as being a successful movie that involves and never get bored, is a genuine mix of action, comedy, blood, love, feelings, revenge, martial arts and badass scene supported by an efficient script and a flawless and very accurate direction.
A film like Insane either you love it or hate it but it certainly will talk about itself and will not go unnoticed.
