Sol negro

This is your usual French melodrama. It has all the hallmarks of a bad script, bad acting, a lot of shouting and extreme soapiness. The audio is terrible and it is often not possible to even know what language is being spoken. It is amazing that with all modern sound technology available, French soaps like this still have not mastered how to achieve clear dialog as audio. Isabel Adjani tries to offer some semblance of acting but the carpet like wig that she has to wear is too much of a distraction to not laugh out loud. Overall, it's not worth the watch!

It's going to be hard writing a review that doesn't include spoilers. What can you say about a series that has its main characters, including the "heroine" making ridiculous decisions in every episode? Or a series that introduces a character just before the final episode who turns out to be pivotal to the plot? It's all a nonsense.

I watched it all, more fool me, which is why there are two stars.

As for Isabelle Adjani, I hope her fee was big enough to compensate for the reputational damage she will have suffered for appearing, botoxed out, in this farago of idiocy. Having to parade around in the ludicrous wig the script called for was the crowning glory of sublimely stupid scenarios. It got even better when she swapped the greying-hair wig for a brown-hair one. This was hilarious.

I can't recommend this unless you want to watch for a laugh.

This series is not good.

The writing is abysmal.

The story it is something between soap opera, rich family issues and a crime mystery and it fails in everything.

Character's actions do not make any sense and the fact we barely know anything about them doesn't help either.

The mystery is stupid, the plot is confusing and nothing is well executed.

I got who was the murderer almost immediately (verified by reading spoilers) and I have the feeling none of the viewers was shocked with the revelation.

Acting is not good either, even if most of the cast is stellar. But can you blame the actors when they had to perform with such a weak material? It was quite embarrassing watching Adjani trying to seriously say such stupid lines. I hope the salary was worth it.

I stopped watching in the middle of episode 3. I could not care less about these people.

I do not even recommend it for summer light watching.

Just do not bother.

This series can best be described as an intense melodrama devoid of Sex , Nudity and Violence while trying to appeal to an adult audience with a complex melodramatic storyline - it tried to do too much while attempting to appeal to an American Audience who loves violence ( Europe isn't crazy about violence ) , but believes sex must happen in a dark room with your clothes on - hence censored public TV - my point is that this very good melodrama was in search of an audience - Technically the intricacies of the story were difficult to follow , I hate flashbacks but in this case were necessary - I gave this series a generous 7 because I thought it was well done - it was entertaining but not fun and didn't leave me with a good feeling until the very end - If you are going to make an adult melodrama - include some adult realism to make it believable.

These French series from South of France offered some wonderful views. The landscapes were perfect to set up one of the most brutal family tragedy I have ever seen before on Netflix. Alright, there were one or two opened questions at the end but if you can look away it works as an intriguing thriller guessing during all the episodes who the real murder is. Especially the last three episodes blew me away discovering other surprising details. The boy delivered really a very mature strong performance and his mother too. Congratulations to all of them. 6/10.
