The Decedent

Another solid showing from Andrew Bowser. The Decedent wears it's inspiration on it's sleeve--The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Mortuary Assistant, a bit of original Blair Witch, etcetera. There's not much fat to be trimmed here. You're not getting groundbreaking horror, but you're also not doomed to a weak-sauce PG-13 slog. The movie hits the setup, the lore, and then the horror at a good pace without breaking stride. The fixed multi-cam security footage style works well, and the Go-Pro POV is a clear evolution from Bowser's early work "Worm." I'm not a huge fan of the footage error effect, but I can forgive it in exchange for some sharp practical effects. Overall, I had a good time with The Decedent, and I think it was worth the watch.

I am a huge fan of found footage. That being said, there is a lot of it on Tubi that is awful.

I gave this one a shot and found to my surprise that it's actually pretty good and has a lot of original ideas in it It is a bit of a slow burn, but I don't mind that if it keeps my attention which it did.

I will say for a lower budget movie, It did quite well with props and Gore.

Thank you for putting together a good solid found footage movie that I didn't have to stop watching.

First of all, I detest"found footage" horror films. I find them pretentious or simply unsettling to watch; that camera bouncing around.makes me sick to my stomach. I walked out of Blair Witch Project. Having sai that, I must say that I found The Decedent to be a quite original take, with the all seeing camera being a combination of the how to videos that the young mortician Bella was making and the CC camera system the funeral home employed.

Also, I am also extremely suspicious of a director who is also one of the actors. It almost never works out except for Clint Eastwood. However Andrew Bowser's excellent durection and solid acting as Duncan the handyman was compelling. If I have one complaint about The Decendent is that it builds too slowly. It spends nearly half of its 1 hour and 22 minute running time setting up its dramatic second half; as fast as the first half was slow, the film takes off when the completely unexpected murder of the actor/director happens. I won' t spoil my review with the specifics, but if you can be patient the wait is more than worth it.

The gore is quite explicit, and the film becomes a torture films in sections, but the payoff is chilling. I highly recommend it.
