At first, we encounter Joel as a broken person, looking for no meaning, as if the time stopped after Sarah passed.
Finally, during this episode, we encounter a Joel with a sense of purpose in the form of this witty little girl named Ellie, she's no longer "cargo" but a friend, a daughter.
All the people were talking about the lack of "super man Joel", a guy that could run through dozens of infected like nothing. We got instead, a tired and old Joel that could barely aim albeit more human and real.
The show gave us, finally, the Joel we were all waiting for, the power of fatherhood make us do amazing things.

During this episode we get a glimpse of Ellie's life before Joel. There were (and still are) many unanswered questions about her past so I think it was important to know a little bit more about her.
On this episode she finds herself with an intricate and difficult problem that concerns her survival and that of Joel. This conundrum triggers a memory from her past, a key part of her development as a person, said memory will allow the viewer to observe an oasis of fun, noise and party in the middle of the apocalypses, were, for a few moments, Ellie stops being a survivor to be what she is first and foremost: a teenager.
Like all of teenagers, she doesn't know exactly how to communicate what she wants and it's impossible not to relate to that feeling, that of a lost kid in the search of love and meaning.

An ode to masculinity, violence and pride. This movie was close to be a Gladiator - like masterpiece.
The cinematography was beautiful and it's not hard to give your undivided attention to the screen. Violent and weird, historical and magical. The Northman is a movie filled with moments to be remembered, such as the village raid. Throughout the entire movie I reminiscence of Alejandro Gonzáles Iñárritu's Revenant, which says alot about the quality of this movie.
I only wish the action didn't stop during the third act, since it basically starts being a drama to give some sort of arc and redemption opportunity to our hero but in my opinion this is where the movie falls short. At this moment is easy to get distracted.
I'm sure those weird moments are going to be a turn off for most people, some of them felt absolutely unnecessary.
