I went in hoping for something fresh but got exactly what you'd expect from this genre. The whole "troubled past to heroic redemption" thing has been done a million times, and this doesn't bring anything new to the table. Danny Trejo basically plays Danny Trejo again, which isn't necessarily bad but feels lazy.
The MMA scenes were decent enough - solid choreography and good production values. What bothered me was how predictable everything felt. You know from minute one exactly where this story's heading. The immigrant angle had potential to add depth, but it mostly just felt like checking boxes rather than genuine storytelling.
The pacing dragged in the middle when they tried to develop the emotional stuff. I found myself more interested during the fight sequences than the character moments, which probably isn't what they were going for.
Is it worth watching? If you're really into MMA movies and don't mind formulaic plots, maybe. But there are way better redemption stories out there. This one plays it too safe and doesn't earn its emotional beats.

I was a huge fan of the original Troma movie, and I had high hopes for this remake. But honestly, it just didn't work for me. The humor felt forced, and it seemed to be trying way too hard to be a "woke" version of the original's messy, chaotic spirit. The jokes fell flat, and the attempts at social commentary felt preachy and heavy-handed instead of being genuinely clever.
The film's tone was all over the place. It couldn't decide if it wanted to be a sincere character study or an over-the-top gross-out comedy, and it ended up being neither. The whole movie felt sanitized and polished, which is the last thing you want from a Toxic Avenger film. It lost all the scrappy, DIY charm of the original.
And yes, it is a remake of the 1984 Troma film of the same name.
Is it worth watching? No, I wouldn't recommend it. It's a pale imitation of the original that misses the point entirely. If you're a fan of Troma or low-budget cult films, this remake will likely disappoint you.

I went into "Oh, Hi!" by Sophie Brooks with no expectations, and I was pleasantly surprised. The film follows a group of friends navigating their late twenties, but it feels so much more real than most movies in this genre. The dialogue is incredibly natural, almost like you're just eavesdropping on their conversations. It's funny without being over the top, and the quiet, emotional moments hit hard.
The acting is superb, especially the lead who portrays the central character's quiet anxiety so well. I loved how the film wasn't about a big dramatic event, but about the small, everyday struggles and triumphs that shape us. The use of a simple, indie soundtrack also really complemented the film's tone.
Is it worth watching? It depends. If you're looking for a low-key, heartfelt movie that feels genuine and relatable, give this a shot. It's a sweet, honest look at friendship and growing up that really resonated with me.
