The entire movie felt like slop. The action scenes had dialogue, and the dialogue felt like it was written by a teenager. I think me and my mates made better stories playing one-word turns in school.
The movie didn't have a story worth telling. More importantly not only were the lines rubbish, but the lines were poorly delivered. I genuinely believe the acting was terrible on all parts, like the actors knew it was going to flop so they put in minimal effort.
If Gunn is set on including Blue Beetle in the DCU, then I hope all the characters are recast.
Any part of the movie that had a chance of being sincere and serious had to be broken up by a joke. I think there's one poorly written joke every 5 minutes, and the family is interjected with moronic singing and stereotyped vibes every second. Like if you're going to write an eccentric family into the film, they don't have to joke every second.
At some points the family is in danger and they laugh off the danger as if they have plot armour that they know about. Remember these are normal people, not superheroes and they just believe they can't be killed or something? Especially moments after a significant scene that should force the family to reflect that they're maybe getting in the way?
If I had to sum this movie up I wouldn't be surprised if it was released as a budget PowerRangers movie. Not something I'd expect from a multimillion dollar production company.
