McGivern played the voice role of Ford Prefect in the original BBC
radio series of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Alan Bell (the
director of the TV series of the same name) decided not to subsequently
cast McGivern in the same role in TV version of the series, claiming he
looked 'too ordinary'. David Dixon was cast in the role instead.
