In 1992, the Petersons moved into the James Adams Buchanan house at 1810 Cedar St in Forest Hills, a wealthy neighborhood in Durham, NC near Duke University. The death of Kathleen Peterson occurred in the house, which was built by a local prominent business leader in the 1940's. In 1989, filming took place in the house for the film The Handmaid's Tale, serving as the residence of Robert Duvall's character of The Commander. Faye Dunaway and Natasha Richardson descend the real staircase of the crime scene at 54:33 in the film.
