Heinz Altmann
Heinz Altmann was born in Ulm, Germany in 1926. His family later moved to Stuttgart. He served in the Flak as a Hitlerjunge in his senior year in high school. That was followed by service in the Reichsarbeitsdienst (Labor Service) and then in the German Army. He faced the US 3rd Army in September 1944 as a member of Panzergrenedier Regiment 2112, part of 112 Panzerbrigade. He was badly wounded after about two weeks at the front, and recuperated in hospital until March 1945. He surrendered in April and was a prisoner until 1948. Eventually he emigrated to the USA, obtained an engineering degree, and worked for Eastman Kodak until he retired. He passed away in January 2014.
