CHILD OF LIGHT (2014) was an interesting turned-based RPG game, with heavy fairy tale themes and illustrated graphics, making the whole tale almost story-book like. While it might seem simple at first, you will learn it IS actually simple, and that's not entirely a bad thing. I suppose I just was expecting some deeper hidden complexities or some twist at the end, but it was still a decent game.
In my opinion, the story could have been much better without relying too heavily on tired clichés. And if they wanted to go with clichés, I really wish the devs had taken a more traditional "Brothers Grimm" path than the ol' "Walt Disney" path, but that's just my opinion. A game need not be overly dark or edgy even to be great, but should at least have original elements that bring it all together, creating something memorable and unique. As it stands, the story felt weak and could have used way more quests, the music was descent but not mind-blowing. The visuals and game mechanics really boosted this games appeal however, but even those things don't make this game truly stand out.
Overall, it was pretty fun and entertaining and it had a certain unique charm to it. It was enjoyable but there wasn't a whole lot of potential for replay. It seems to be a fairly short game, as some friends and I played half of it in one sitting (around 2 hours). It was a decent game, rocking some strong female heroines and was fairly entertaining. While I love the "Damsel Saves Herself" theme, the game still just a bit too cute for me.
