Soundgarden and Pearl Jam joined forces to pay tribute to the late Andrew Wood, lead vocalist of Mother Love Bone (both band members were part of this project earlier in their careers). The result was Temple of the Dog, a whole album dedicated to Wood and their main song was "Hunger Strike". The music video isn't any masterpiece as clips usually were back then, but there's something truly special there: the location, the way it was filmed and it brings back memories, specially for those who lived the grunge era; the song wasn't one of my favorites up until some recent years...seeing now this combination of medias feels like adequate, memorable and possibly one of the greatest clip moments of all time. The "vocal duel" between Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder is truly epic.
Concept is simple and safe: a super band performing a powerful song. I'm not sure about the beach where it was filmed but it looks hauntingly beautiful, it perfectly reflects the mood of the song, that everlasting sadness echoing through the air and the guitar riffs insisting in sounding very hard, hitting you deeply while the song words never make you forget about what you're hearing. There isn't much of special moments when it comes to the video and words aren't enough to describe the images, the feelings and the sensation this song brings to you, it is a must-see experience so you can taste and feel what it's all about. In my case, it's like being transported into another dimension, a period I know very little except for what lasted: the songs and the way they entered into your soul.
A lovely shock to the senses, for fans and non fans. The more you hear it and the more you look at it, the greater the experience gets. 8/10
