While trying to keep her life together, a mother's grief over the unexpected death of her son is soon enhanced when a series of visions and hallucinations points to a devastating curse being enacted on the family for a past ritual that was performed and must find a way to stop it from consuming her.
Overall, there's a lot of fun to be had with this one. Among the better elements at play here comes from the stellar setup which is a highly immersive aspect utilized here. That this opts for a devastating and genuinely heartbreaking family tragedy at the centerpiece of the story involving the son's death in front of her and the reaction this causes from both of them involves a lot to like. Going from her understandable grief and mourning over the accident while he spouts off claims of negligent parenting to allow it to happen, the starting point at play operates quite well at providing the framework of the stellar supernatural action to come. That supernatural action is, indeed, one of the best parts of the film. The visions and hallucinations of the demonic women appearing to her and offering up incredible vivid recreations of the incident or showcasing a horrifying birth sequence of a bloody baby being removed from the body offer several outstanding scenes that allow for an easy explanation of the curse being afflicted. That these demonic beings are a prominent aspect of the film going forward, either appearing as influencing the action of what's happening or ensuring the secret family curse stays buried which helps to make their presence chilling as much as the suddenness of their visit. As well, the last half hour here plays with a slew of spectacular and outright chilling scenes that come off incredibly well. From torturing the husband to the breaking point, the interactions within the haunted house and the confrontation in the mother's room feature some fantastic ghostly encounters and hard-hitting situations that all lead incredibly well into the finale. This features an incredibly dark series of revelations and secret bombshells about the nature of the family curse coming to life while also generating some fun action involving the highly enjoyable series of encounters trying to stop the curse. Combined, these all come together for a lot to like here. There are some small factors involved here to bring this down. One of the biggest issues here is the somewhat unnecessary behavior of the husband who saps at her unreasonably for what happened to the son. By being unlikable and completely unrealistic in his reaction to her behavior, this makes for an unsympathetic figure that doesn't serve our respect and makes for a rather tough beginning to this one. Also, there's a highly-rushed feeling in the finale where it finally reveals the big family secret only to end shortly afterward as if that was the sole purpose rather than doing anything about it which can be slightly jarring and is what holds it back.
