The character Teddy Berman first appeared in a musical written by cousins Robbie & Steve Fox which premiered at the Manhattan Theater Club in New York for director Herbert Ross... then later ran at the Tiffany Theater in Los Angeles for director Andy Fickman. Robbie Fox later performed stand up as Teddy Berman... and published satirical articles under the name Teddy Berman.
