Sigh. This movie had so much promise. It set itself up so well and then just bit by bit it fell apart. It had a good heroine who was easy to root for. It had a menacing villain who was a lot of fun to watch each time he was on screen. And then the film made a creative choice which I will never understand and the film never recovered from that point.
The good news is that the first half of the film is enjoyable enough that this isn't a complete misfire. When the movie is good, it's really good. There are some fun little creative choices that I thought worked quite well, like words flashing on the screen and the fourth wall being broken. It's a risk to try these types of things but I think the risk was worth it here.
I don't really know how to feel about this film. I could see it being quite polarising for audiences. 6/10.
