An author of novels , Carlos Maraga (Volker von Collande) has no scruprels and begins to break the resistance of a young and virginal girl named Margarita (Delia Garcés) with solid Catholic moral and strict convictions who is in love with him . Things get worse when the writer tries to capture his sexual relationship with the religious girl in a book and she finds out about his nefarious intentions .
This decent drama develops a peculiar romance , plenty of sadness and melancholy , between a shameless writer and a very religious woman . It results to be a spiritual film and full of good feeling , touching sacrifice and dramatic relationship . Based on the play "La luz de la víspera" by José María Pemán and adapted by Gonzalo Torrente Ballester and filmmaker José Antonio Nieves Conde himself . This is a 'rara avis' film of the 50s because dealing with a strong portrait of Spanish society , it didn't please the pro-Franco authorities and was strongly censored , in fact this Rebeldía (1954) has a certain resemblance to the subsequent Calle Mayor (1956) , a known classic directed by Juan Antonio Bardem. José Antonio Nieves Conde's conceptual and political audacity as well as the social criticism result to be so evident in this film who he had to fight the censorship which didn't admit the some engaging scenes and obligated a determined ending . Fine performances from Delia Garcés as a sweet and lonely woman who falls in love with an unscrupulous person , the German Volker von Collande , while Fernando Rey gives a sensitive and adequate acting in his usual role as a priest and voice of conscience and of God . While Fernando Fernán Gómez plays an unnecessary role as the editor and translator of the pages that the philander writer writes and interferes in the relationship between the two main characters. The movie displays a Spanish secondary star-studded , such as : Dina Sten , Rafael Arcos , Félix Dafauce , José Prada , Francisco Bernal , among others .
The movie was made with some skillness by José Antonio Nieves Conde , although this is far from the cinema that most interests him and far from his best movies , despite having a certain criticism of a dissolute writer whe eventually finds redemption . Packing an evocative and atmospheric cinematography in black and white that would not improve in color by professional cameraman Francisco Sempere . Being shot on location in Benidorm , Altea, Alicante, Comunidad Valenciana, Alicante, Comunidad Valenciana, and Madrid , España . This is an acceptable film with fine sets from Tomás Fernández
