Below average and improbable Wiedergutmachungsdrama concerning a young German woman who falls in love with a French WW2 soldier by way of his diary (!). Master of mediocrity Jacobs' straight on open and shut direction does not make it very convincing; cinematography is not faultless. The script adds too many melodramatic tricks that do not work, and I hate films where kind-hearted priests and the like act as the Deus ex machina.
I cannot imagine that this film contributed anything to a better understanding between the French and the Germans.
