FRIENDS is the last of the 'angry young man' films that Shaw made throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s, and like many of them, it stars the great David Chiang as the usual happy-go-lucky type character. This time around we get a star-making turn too from Alexander Fu Sheng, who really shines as a disaffected and bored young rich man looking for kicks and finding them. The plot has a noticeably more upbeat tone than other prior films, but there's plenty of threat too and some action scenes which fit the bill, although they're not quite as thrilling as those found in Cheh's other movies. This is one of those films that's worth it if you like the stars.
