The brothers of Yli-Koskela farm fall for the same woman.Then Aarne believes he has killed a man.Artturi sees the case and saves the man from drowning to the rapids.He takes advantage of the situation and tells the woman, Lea, that his brother is a murderer.Hornankoski (1949)is directed by Teuvo Tulio and also Roland af Hällström.Regina Linnanheimo gives a fine performance as Lea, the maid.William Markus is brilliant as Aarne Yli-Koskela.Åke Lindman gives such a strong portrayal of Artturi Yli-Koskela in his debut movie.Annie Mörk is terrific as the boys' mother.Rauha Rentola plays the maid Irma and Heikki Savolainen is Kalle.Both great.Matti Ranin's father Helge Ranin plays the dean.We just missed Åke Lindman this week.He plays a villain here just like he did in so many other movies.Until he got fed up with that.To most of the Finns Åke is most known from the movie Tuntematon sotilas (1955), where he played the tough guy Lehto, even though he wanted to play Koskela.Today I watched a Swedish documentary on FST5 of the man where he talked about his movies and also his childhood and his football career.What a fine man he was.This movie has some really fine moments, like when Lea is on that shaky bridge and about to fall into the rapids.And in the end with the galloping horse and Åke.Esko Töyri won a Jussi award for Best CinematographyWatch this movie where you can see Åke Lindman just starting his career 60 years ago.
