With a relatively small budget, an honest adaptation of Dumas's musketeers' adventures.It was the first time the story had been filmed in full ,the four volumes (at least in Dumas' country).

By filming the whole saga ,the director wanted to show that the foursome was worn away by time;once dashing heroes,they had become tired old men in the last segment,not sure of what they had to do,sometimes becoming enemies.
Dominique Paturel was a good D'Artagnan ,and two Italian actresses ,Eleonora Rossi-Drago and Antonella Lualdi were cast as Queen Anne and Milady.
