Of course I had never heard about this 2005 sci-fi horror movie titled "Alien Abduction" prior to stumbling upon the movie by random chance here in 2024. And I have to say that the movie's cover was actually interesting enough to make me pick it up. And since it was a horror movie of sorts, that I hadn't already seen, of course I opted to give the movie a fair chance.
And as the movie started, my expectations went from slim to none. Why? Well, this was a movie from The Asylum. Yeah, not exactly a movie company with a stellar production value throughout all the years. But every now and again The Asylum does spew out something good, so of course I watched the movie, hoping that this would be one such movie.
I have to say that writer and director Eric Forsberg sure didn't waste any time setting up the movie and planting a narrative. Nay, the movie just throws the audience into the action right away. And that was actually something I enjoyed. But the movie quickly settled into a slump and a slow paced trot, from which it never recovered. And it was quite a struggle to sit through the movie once the narrative moved to the mental institution.
The only familiar face on the screen, for me, was actor Griff Furst. It should be noted, that even while the script was rubbish, then the acting performances in the movie were fair.
The sounds that the alien creature was making were insanely annoying, and they almost made me turn off the movie. It was quite a struggle to sit through and listen to those ridiculous and super annoying sounds. And it didn't help much that the alien creature design looked like it was made from paper mache in an Arts and Crafts class and some resin mask from Wish to top it off. It was so horrible low budget and home-made.
This movie was a swing and a miss of a movie in terms of being entertaining. And it definitely is not a movie that I would recommend you to sit down and waste 96 minutes on watching. Some of us suffered through this dumpster fire of a movie so you don't have to; you're very welcome. You will probably end up wishing that you would be abducted so you don't have to suffer through this ordeal, should you opt to actually sit down and watch it.
The movie's cover was actually the best thing about the ordeal.
My rating of "Alien Abduction" lands on a two out of ten stars.
