This series is comic brilliance. It's consistently smart and funny, and that alone is saying a lot, but there is so much more. You frequently get those did-they-just-say-what-I-thought-they-said moments. Imaginary Bitches accomplishes accessibility without "dumbing down" for the audience. The dialogue is snappy and brisk but never feels rushed. Add to the razor sharp writing a phenomenal talent pool of cast and crew. Facial expressions and mannerisms, brought by all of the actors, bring to light a depth of layers that leaves you wanting to know more about even the most fleeting of characters. The lead actress flawlessly portrays not only her own character, but essentially the imaginary ones as well. So convincingly acknowledged by not only the actress's sight line choices and reactions to unspoken imaginary lines, but also by the camera work that it's easy to believe that the imaginary girls really are there and that you just can't see them. And how unlucky for you, because they seem like a riot through their 'real person' filter. The lighting and camera work is beautiful from the soft diffused glow of the windows to the warm intimate lighting and even the dark/flashlight scene in one episode, and the visual layering of people, objects and spaces in the frame. Now on to the post production talent. The clean cut, crisp editing keeps things flowing, but again never feels rushed, and the sound is never unbalanced, whispers and excited shrieks can both be heard without having to adjust your volume or cover your ears. This is a huge plus when half of the television shows and movies currently out there have a musical score and or effects track that often drowns out the actors. All of these things are rare enough in a big budget feature film or network favorite television show, but this little gem is neither. Not only is it a limited/low/no budget web series. It packs all of the storyline of 22 minutes worth of traditional sitcom into 8 minutes or less(I think the longest runtime for an episode so far this season is 7 minutes 45 seconds.) This is the kind of project that talented people scramble to be a part of, and lucky for us we get to watch.
