A powerful docudrama that gives the audience insight into the every day life in Kibera, a large slum in Nairobi, Kenya. Kamau, an artist, and Otieno, an activist share a dream for a better future for all. Yet they are also rivals for Alice, the pastor's daughter. Kamau is conflicted because he fears revealing his tribal identity. He is also in conflict with his father, who represents the older generation which is firmly entrenched in tribalism.
The tensions between different tribal groups and the attempts to bring unity are placed in a balanced perspective, that offers the possibility of hope and reconciliation, even after the devastating violence following the Kenyan presidential election of December 2007. Outstanding performances by all of the non-professional cast. Cinematography that pulls the viewer into the beauty within the slum. Wonderful music and soundtrack using local musicians. Highly recommended for all audiences everywhere.
