Ho Thi Lu drew on his own experiences as an immigrant after his family fled his native, war ravaged homeland for a better life in Australia. He found the role very challenging and close to his heart. Robert Rabiah claims that Ho Thi Lu was one of the most naturally gifted actors he's had the joy of working with and that Lu's contribution for ethnic authenticity in the film was invaluable.
